This course examines Section 1877 of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 1395nn), known as the Stark Law or the physician self-referral law. The Stark Law prohibits physicians from referring Medicare or Medicaid patients to designated health services (DHS) in which they (or an immediate family member) have a financial interest, unless an exception applies. Participants will explore the law’s key provisions, regulatory exceptions, enforcement risks, and compliance strategies.
